for SATB Voices and piano with opt. cello
Words by Edward Hopper and Charles Wesley, music by Thomas Grassi
Pairing the text of Edward Hopper's 19th c. hymn "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me" with Charles Wesley's "Jesus, Lover of My Soul", Thomas Grassi brings us a musical meditation on our longing for the presence of Christ in times of trouble. The cello part is expertly written and the piano accompaniment, while not simple, uses a full palette of colors and register changes to support the text. The result is uplifting, never overbearing.
