Built around the text "love is strong as death," from one of the most familiar Old Testament passages, the composer has elected to set it in the original Hebrew in order to capture the sounds, cadence, and rhyme scheme that its writer found so musical so many centuries ago. Commissioned by the Iowa Choral Directors Association and the Iowa Composers Forum, "Set Me as a Seal" was premiered by Magnum Chorum, David Dickau, conductor.
