Four Louisiana Creole Folk Songs No. 3 Calinda
For SATB voices divisi, opt. piano
By Louis Reichwein
To music in a lilting 6/8, the text describes a ball, which, despite being held in a barn, was so grand that even the horses were astonished. Along with the recurring phrase, "Dance, Calinda," the chorus sings "boudoum" as a musical accompaniment. An optional piano part is provided (it is not mere doubling.) There is no divisi in this movement, and the music is enchanting and approachable.
