Turn Around, Turn Around!

On the surface, "Tournez, Tournez!" is a piece about a carousel turning around, bedecked with colorful wooden horses. The riders are crying, "Turn around!" ("Tournez, tournez!") "Turn a hundred times!" ("Tournez cent!"). Night soon falls, the merriment subsides, and the people go home. Then another day dawns ("Aurora calls") , the carousel starts to turn, and excitement begins all over again! The percussion emulates the sounds of whirring machines and people scurrying about in a carnival atmosphere.
