Along with 'The waiting sky', this is another Christmas miniature from Oliver Tarney. Scored for unaccompanied mixed choir, it captures the intimacy and atmosphere of this well-loved 16th-century text. Through homophonic textures, word-painting and use of extended harmonies, and a lilting rhythm, the piece has a subtlety that provides a challenge for established choirs while remaining accessible musically (and in terms of scoring) to mainstream groups. The carol is being recorded by the choir Sansara' for Classic FM in December 2017, meaning OUP will earn mechanical rights income from future broadcasts.
