Stand By Me, Lord has been arranged and recorded in different forms by many gospel singers, including Elvis Presley. This arrangement was inspired by the Mavis Staples version where she sings unaccompanied on two tracks, to create an aleatoric duet with herself. The opening phrases are sung by the solo voice. As the chorus joins in, the arrangement builds to a strong climax, which is followed by a beautiful and hopeful conclusion, sung once again by the solo voice.
