For SATB Voices divisi, unaccompanied
By Connor Koppin
Connor Koppin's setting of i carry your heart with me (i carry it in by E. E. Cummings (18941962) uses only a few short lines from the source poem in a mantra-like fashion. The phrase,"i carry your heart with me" is repeated a number of times using different textures, harmonies, and voices, thus re-enforcing the idea of intertwining two souls into one. Men's and women's voices are often at odds in this setting and come together only in moments of absolute unity. c. 5:37
