Voicing: SATB, a cappella

In this fine a cappella setting by Michael John Trotta, new light shines onto one of the most beloved of all Christmas texts. A graceful soprano melody is set against the backdrop of rich lower voice sonorities, with an interwoven texture and seamless phrases which gradually yield to a declamation on the words, "'round yon Virgin." In the final verse the treble voices soar above a pedal tone in the lower vocal parts, ending with a brief section of repose which paints a serene mood.
