This is the third in my series of beautiful settings by Colin Britt of an Edna St. Vincent Millay poem. I believe that Colin has a very special way of capturing the unique atmosphere of each poem he sets. His voicing is always exquisite and his control of tension and relaxation enriches the delicate nuances in the poetic lines. Observation of Colin's marking "sempre rubato" is important to heighten the effect of a poet developing images as the poem unfolds and to encourage a sense of spontaneity and reflection.
