Toward the end of Isaiah's prophecy of distress and destruction comes the 35th chapter, a glimpse of the coming Kingdom. This hymn-like anthem expresses the joy and relief the Lord's coming will bring. The keyboard introduction suggests VENI EMMANUEL but immediately proceeds in posing the first of seven questions – all answered by the enchanting refrain – "The glory of the Lord, and the majesty of God, who comes to save." The piece concludes with an imploring prayer – "O come, O come Emmanuel."
