Composed by Adela Maddison
Arranged by William J. Bullock
Here is a lament with English and German texts containing two verses of an 18th-century folk song for SA chorus with piano accompaniment. The expressive, pulsating accompaniment underscores the message of a lyric melody. In the first verse, the poet is anxious, unable to relate to the gentle moon's tranquility. In the second verse, consolation replaces anxiety as the poet realizes the moon's discretion allows one to confide the cause of sadness to it.
