Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Words by William David Young and Ignaz Franz, music by Johann Sebastian Bach / arr. William David Young
with flute and oboe (optional Bb clarinet)
"Te Deum Laudamus" has long been a staple liturgical text of praise. In this setting, William David Young matches it with Bach's beloved 10th movement of the cantata, Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (BWV 147) -- more commonly known as "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." The familiar pastoral mood of the music enhances the majesty of the text and lends a freshness to both. It is not difficult and is a welcome addition to any general worship service. Optional C instrument or Bb clarinet obbligato are available. Related scripture: Psalm 145:1; Isaiah 6:2,3; Ephesians 1:19-23; Revelation 4
