The Coffee Cantata "Be quiet chats not" and the peasants cantata, "Mer hahn en new Oberkeet" - both based on texts by Picander - are among the best known and most performed secular cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The resulting 1742 "Peasants Cantata," Bach's Cantata is the latest datable, a cheerful folk-art with musical means. Occasion of the composition was a tribute to Carl Heinrich von Dieskau Picander superiors, who had inherited the family estates in 1742.
The cantata uses the example of an unusual material, both through its formal structure and implementation through their musical mastery of Bach. It is here presented on the basis of the "New Bach Edition" in single issue with clear and good playing piano score by Andreas Köhs.
- Original text of the "New Bach Edition"
