Mark Hayes is at his very best as he demonstrates his mastery of late Renaissance and early Baroque styles of brass writing. This arrangement for the slightly larger ensemble (8 players) uses creative meter changes between 3/2 and 4/2, strong counterpoint, and an excellent variety of textures. Every phrase is fresh, and a strong, high-energy ending is fun and exciting. The optional snare drum part adds even more punch.
