Verano Porteño is the Summer movement of Astor Piazzolla's "Cuatro Estanciones Porteñas" – The Four Seasons. This 'tango' is a bit different from the usual Argentine tango in that it includes calm and reflective sections in addition to the more driving rhythmic style. Carlos and Rafael have crafted a fabulous setting for handbells and handchimes. A rhythmic, malleted bass includes sixteenth note features while the melody is rung in the mid-bass and treble. Variations of tempo and mood are lovely and inner voicings provide important offsets. The addition of handchimes are a perfect change in texture and tone as this work continues to its dynamic ending. This music is remarkable in its simplicity and every note has a special purpose. LV is used extensively throughout for a legato feel and directors may choose to suggest Delay Damp technique in places to preserve clarity in the wonderful wash of sound.
