Thomas Chisholm wrote the lyrics of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" as a testament to God's faithfulness. Based on Lamentations 3:22-24, this stalwart favorite begins with large, broad chords that create a sense of God's faithfulness and strength. The opening chords are followed by a lighter handchime and suspended bell motif to lend imagery to other parts of the text that refer to morning, seasons and peace. The handchimes return later as a countermelody to the tune that is rung on handbells, which makes this a wonderful selection for developing groups to work on balance between melody and accompaniment.
