Two French carols have been set under this one cover. "The Sleep of the Infant Jesus" is for 3-5 octaves and 3 octaves of handchimes (or keyboard) in two distinct choirs. The slow tempo allows for flowing accompaniment underneath the plaintive, minor melody, which is later treated in imitative style. The second carol is "What Is This Lovely Fragrance?" for 3-5 octaves of bell and 3-4 octaves of handchimes or keyboard. Marked "Ethereally" the opening is spacious and light ands sets up the entrance of the melody in full chords in choir II. Both are fresh carols for the Christmas season.
