Though similar in title, this is not an arrangement of the well-known hymn, but rather is an original work by Gene Grier and Lowell Everson, arranged for handbells and solo voice by Karen Roth. The text begins: "Jesus, our Lord, was crucified. Beneath the cross we suffered as he died." Several phrases from "O Sacred Head Now Wounded" are interwoven into the lyrics. Handbells and voices blend well together, and this setting is an ideal work for the Lenten season. Arranged in the keys of g minor, f minor, c minor, b minor, and a D Major final chord, measures total 59.
