arr. Charles Maggs
2/3 octaves, Level 1
One of the church's long-standing hymns, also known as the "Old 100th", has been given a full and exhilarating setting that is perfect as a solo or offertory for any church service. The music begins with a four-measure flourish that is based on the first four notes of the melody. Following this opening fanfare is a section that uses large chords and a simple rhythm pattern to make the first melodic statement, after which the choir begins echoing two-measure phrases between the high and low bells. The music then repeats the first section, closing out with a fanfare that parallels the opening one. Performer and audience alike are sure to be pleased by the sheer exhilaration of the music.
